Rwanda: Adult Students Awarded Certificates

Kigali/Rwanda, 27.09.2006 (TNT) Over 7895 adults from Nyagatare District were on September 26 awarded with certificates in adult education.

Presiding over the graduation ceremony held at Rukomo recreational centre in Rukomo Sector, Nyagatare District, the secretary general in the ministry of education, Nalasis Musabyeyezu urged the graduates to continue reading books to acquire more knowledge.

He said: "Put what you have studied in practice to benefit the society and participate in the development of your area." He thanked the Danish International Development Agency (DANIDA) and Adventist Development Agency (ADRA-Denmark) for supporting the government's efforts of improving literacy levels in the country. DANIDA, through ADRA-Denmark is supporting adult illiteracy education programmes in different districts of the country.The ADRA programmes officer, Martin Rutazibwa said all the students were given soft loans to assist them initiate some income generating projects and generate some money for saving. Rutazibwa further said the next intake of more adult students will resume in October this year and appealed to people to participate in the next intake to improve literacy levels and welfare in the area.
