Mark-Andre HenselHensel replaces Douglas Sinclair, who has served since October 2006 as interim director for ADRA Pakistan, located in Lahore.

“Pakistan is a country with a great many needs,” commented Hensel. “My goal is to set up a stable structure that will allow us to operate plenty of projects and programs all over the country. However, I am definitely very optimistic about our work here, and am looking forward to utilizing the opportunities that we find here.”

As country director, Hensel will oversee all logistical operations for ADRA Pakistan, as well as supervise development and relief projects at the managerial level. Hensel will work closely with local government agencies, other non-governmental organizations, donors and local media. Other responsibilities will include recruiting, training, and managing staff.

Although this is Hensel’s first appointment as country director for ADRA, he has substantive experience managing projects in Uganda, Iran, and Indonesia for ADRA Germany. Trained in disaster response, Hensel directed the office’s relief project in New Orleans, Louisiana, in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina in 2005. In 2006, he completed a master’s in international sciences and development cooperation at Friedensau University in Germany.

“We are delighted to have Marc-Andre Hensel join our ADRA team in Pakistan,” affirmed Raafat Kamal, acting regional director of ADRA Trans-Europe. “Marc will bring energy, a youthful spirit and professionalism. We wish Marc and his family all the best as they make final preparation to embark on this new challenge.”

Hensel is currently residing in the Lahore area. His wife, Elke, along with their two sons, Ruben and David, will join him in Pakistan in April.
